Hermann Requardt (53) will be the new CEO of the Siemens Healthcare Sector. He will also retain his position as Chief Technology Officer and head of the Corporate Technology department. “Innovation was – and is – one of the main drivers in the Healthcare Sector. Hermann Requardt has the ideal expertise for this business,” said Peter Löscher, President and CEO of Siemens. The Managing Board appointed Michael Sen (40), currently head of the company’s Investor Relations department, as new Healthcare Sector CFO. “We have made extensive investments in our healthcare business in the past, and Michael Sen will decisively contribute to fully develop that potential further on,” added Löscher. Siemens Healthcare and the Asklepios Hospitals will continue to deepen their cooperation in the information technology (IT) sector. The hospital information system i.s.h.med, installed to date in eight major hospitals of the Asklepios hospital chain, will be expanded by adding elements that further enhance its performance, including a modern user interface with intuitive handling, service-oriented architecture, and a clinical process-management system. The companies will seal their cooperation by signing an agreement within the "Asklepios Future Hospital (AFH)" program today at the Medica in Duesseldorf. More

The Catholic Medical Center in Seoul, Korea has ordered a total of seventy systems of medical equipment from Siemens Healthcare. Worth around 40 million USD (appr. €28 million), the order is one of the biggest of its kind in the medical industry worldwide. Siemens will equip the departments for radiology, nuclear medicine, oncology, cardiology and emergency medicine in the eight hospitals that make up the Catholic Medical Center. Siemens has also signed a service contract with the Medical Center for maintenance, upkeep and permanent monitoring of the equipment. One of the eight hospitals, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, is still under construction and will be Korea’s biggest hospital once it is opened in April 2009. Catholic Medical Center will then become a mammoth multi-medical science complex where a 2,000-bed facility, research and education will take place. More

Siemens Healthcare has donated funds and implemented vital medical equipment to the China Red Cross and the Sichuan Provincial Healthcare Bureau. Two SIREMOBIL® Compact L mobile surgical C-arms and two SONOLINE® Premier Colour ultrasound systems were swiftly routed to the disaster area to assist the relief effort for the earthquake that hit the Chinese province of Sichuan on 12th May 2008. The systems will assist in effectively diagnosing trauma and internal injuries of earthquake victims. More

Siemens Healthcare (www.siemens.com/healthcare) announces the donation and implementation of important medical equipment to the China Red Cross and the Sichuan Provincial Healthcare Bureau, aiding in medical treatment of those affected by the May 12 earthquake that hit the Chinese province of Sichuan. The equipment was quickly routed to the disaster area to assist in the treatment of survivors. The donation of medical equipment follows Siemens EUR 180,000 cash donation and brings Siemens total contribution of aid to the Sichuan earthquake disaster to EUR 540,000. More

Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt recently opened a new orthopedic clinic in Munich. The clinic features state-of-the-art medical systems from Siemens Healthcare, including a 1.5-tesla magnetic resonance imager, an X-ray system, several ultrasound units, and an image archiving and communication system specifically designed for radiology applications. A 3-tesla magnetic resonance system for patient images with even higher resolution is to be installed later this year. Additionally, the renowned expert for sports medicine has entered into a ten-year strategic innovation agreement with Siemens. Under the agreement, Siemens will provide maintenance and ongoing updates to the systems of the Munich-based clinic, both in the form of software updates and by replacing the existing systems with next generation models. In his new position, Quinn succeeds Jim Reid-Anderson, who on May 1st became the new CEO of this sector. The CEO of the Siemens Healthcare Sector, Erich R. Reinhardt (61), will resign his position on the Managing Board of Siemens AG effective April 30, 2008. With this move, he is responding to the new findings of Debevoise & Plimpton regarding compliance cases in the former Siemens Medical Solutions Group. Based on current information, Reinhardt was not personally involved. He will continue to serve the company in a consultative capacity. The Chairman’s Committee of the Supervisory Board will propose to the Supervisory Board that Jim Reid-Anderson (49), previously CEO of the Diagnostics Division in the Healthcare Sector, be appointed as Reinhardt’s successor. During the ongoing “10.000er-Tests” for the electronic health card in Germany, more than 80 percent of all participating hospitals, doctors' offices and pharmacies in the test regions are using the CardOS HealthCare Connector from Siemens Healthcare. The connector provides the link between the IT infrastructure of healthcare service providers and the nationwide central telematic infrastructure. Siemens was the first manufacturer to submit its new connector hardware to the Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte mbH (gematik) in mid-March, where it was successfully tested for use with the online insurance master data service. Thus, Siemens currently claims a top market position in Germany for connectors for the electronic health card – also from a technological point of view. More
